Fr. Schuessler’s Reflection 6-30-24

We continue to reflect on the wonderous gift of the Eucharist during this year of Eucharistic Revival. It started because it was reported that some 70% of Catholics did not believe in the Real Presence. Now it seems that depending on how the question is asked, some 70% of Catholics say that they do believe in the Real Presence. In any case we can take advantage of this time to revive and deepen our faith and awe at this great gift.

Last time I was suggesting that people who abstain from the Eucharist because of allergies to bread and/or wine can visit with us to try to find a solution. I suggested a few: low gluten hosts or under the form of wine. I ran out of space. There is one more: the use of mustumMustum is defined as grape juice in which fermentation has begun but has been suspended with the result that its alcohol content (usually less than 1.0%) does not reach the levels found in most table wines. If this or any of the possibilities mentioned might help you receive Holy Communion, please speak to us. (We would have to order mustum.)

In any case, it is not a “bother” to ask us before Mass to arrange low glutton hosts, or a bit of wine or mustum so that you can be nourished with the Sacred Body and Blood of Christ. We do need some 15 minutes of advance notice to organize this, especially if this is your first time.

I hope this helps to be able to Participate in the Sacred Banquet in which Christ is received, His Passion is recalled, the mind and heart are filled with grace and with the promise of future glory.
