Religious Education

YOU, the parents, are the primary educators of your children! We are here to support you in your family’s faith development. Children take their example from you. If you pray, they will pray. If your faith is important to you, it will be important to your children. If you are kind to others and treat them with respect, your children are sure to follow. Come to church as a family, and your children will learn that they are a part of God’s larger family.

TOGETHER, we will make this a wonderful experience for all!

The Religious Education (RE) Program is for children not attending Catholic School. RE presents the basic doctrine of the Catholic faith to students in Kindergarten thru 8th grade. Classes are also available for high school youth (9-12) who are preparing for the Sacraments of First Eucharist and/or Confirmation. The RE Program, led by the Director of Religious Education (DRE) under the direction of the Pastor of St. James, follows the guidelines set forth by the Diocese of Rockford.

St. James RE Program admission is open to families who live within the parish boundaries, which includes all of Boone County. Exceptions to this policy may be made for those who, for a good reason beyond their control, cannot attend the RE Program within their own parish. The DRE, in consultation with the Pastor of St. James, decides on any enrollment policy exceptions.

Attendance at Mass is an important part of faith formation and is the parents’ and guardians’ responsibility. Admission to the program expects that St. James will become the weekly place of worship and reception of the sacraments for your family.

High School youth are invited to participate in the High School Youth Ministry Program.
