Fr. Geary’s Letter for 5-28-23

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

Praised be Jesus Christ!

Today is Pentecost Sunday, fifty days after the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, the definitive beginning of the Catholic Church.  God the Father sent His Son not only to offer Himself on our behalf but to bring us into communion with Himself in the Mystical Body of Christ, His Church.

The Church is a mission, not a country club.  Her purpose is not to keep bad people from entering; the mission of the Church is to bring bad people in!  Jesus said, “I came not to call the righteous, but sinners” (Mk. 2:17).  The Catholic Church is the place for communion with God experienced concretely through the Sacraments.

Every person is made to be a member of the Church.   God is our Father and we are His children.  We belong in the Catholic Church founded by God’s own Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus wants us to be His missionaries to bring more souls to salvation.  Invite others to find their true home and identity in the Church that Christ founded and sustained with life-giving grace by the sending of the Holy Spirit.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
