Fr. Geary’s Letter, 6-5-22

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

            Praised be Jesus Christ!

Today, fifty days after the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, God the Father in the name of His Son sent the Holy Spirit to begin the Catholic Church. The Holy Spirit prepares men and goes out to meet them with His grace in order to draw them to Jesus. He manifests the risen Lord to them, reminds them of all that Jesus said, and opens their minds to understand His death and Resurrection. The Holy Spirit reveals the Eucharist and moves believers to repentance and reconciliation (Catechism of the Catholic Church, 737).

God the Holy Spirit is a Person, just as God the Father and God the Son are Persons. We should call upon Him by name in our prayer so that He may lead us closer to Christ our Savior. He is the Spirit of truth Who keeps our faith intact. He is the One who strengthens our faith and gives us the desire for holiness. His power makes the Sacraments efficacious and enables hearts of believers to bear fruit in abundance (cf. Jn. 15:8).

God has manifested Himself completely through His Holy Spirit. Have we believed in all of the mysteries of the three divine Persons?  Ask the Holy Spirit to increase your faith in all of the mysteries of God. And turn to the Blessed Virgin Mary, who, overshadowed by the Holy Spirit, graciously received the Fruit of our salvation.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
