Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
It is no accident that Our Lord Jesus Christ performed His first miracle at a wedding banquet. Jesus came to marry a bride, one bride, His bride: the Catholic Church. The wedding feast at Cana was not His wedding but a celebration of the union of a man and a woman before God to which Our Lord and and Our Lady were invited. The wedding feast of Jesus Christ, which was prefigured in His miracle of changing water into wine, would be celebrated at the Last Supper, upon the Cross and in the Resurrection. We are all invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb wherein we will find salvation.
The Holy Mass is the wedding banquet that God Our Father holds for His Son and His bride, the Catholic Church. The groom (Jesus) offers Himself in sacrifice. The bride (the Church) vows her faithfulness and obedience to the groom. Vows are exchanged, gifts are offered and nuptials celebrated. New life comes from the union of groom and bride. Infidelity is unthinkable. What God has joined, man must not separate. Purify yourself so that you might be more pleasing for your divine spouse. Come, the feast is prepared.
God bless you,
Fr. Geary
