Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ our newborn King!
During the Christmas season the Church celebrates the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Their love, unity and faithfulness form a model for us all. God became man in a poor, working class family which exuded magnificent holiness. Jesus Christ grew into manhood while ever remaining divine. He could not have chosen better examples as parents than Our Lady and St. Joseph.
God forms the family around the husband and the wife. Their love should be filled with God’s grace. After being married in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony in the Church, spouses must be open to the children God intends to send them. Each child is a gift from God to his or her parents. Raise them in the Faith through your holy example. Prepare them to enter heaven from whence they came.
Children, love your parents as God’s own representatives. The authority of a mother or father is from God. Obey and respect your parents as God commands. The Lord promises many blessings to those who are good to their parents.
May this feast fill your hearts with grateful affection to the Lord for the gift of your family. With Jesus, Mary and Joseph as our models may we imitate their loving trust in
God the Father’s plan for our salvation.
