Fr. Geary’s Letter, 10-10-2021

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

            Praised be Jesus Christ!

Prayer, in its most basic form, is asking good things from God.  Prayer is a conversation between man and God.  Because the difference between God and man is infinite, humility is required to approach God properly.  God, in His humility, actually listens to our prayers and desires to answer them out of His love for us.

The man in the Gospel today ran to God (Jesus) and knelt before Him and started a conversation with Jesus.  This is prayer.  The man asked Jesus a question and then Jesus asked him a question.  As they talked their conversation got even deeper.  Jesus called the man to greatness but the man left Jesus because he had many possessions.  Jesus wanted the man to follow Him but the man went away from Jesus sad.  The man did not get the answer he wanted from God.

Speak to Jesus.  Go to a place where you can be alone with God.  Pray for wisdom.  Be open.  Let Him speak to you.  He will look at you and love you.  He will draw you to greatness.  He wants you to follow Him.  Say yes.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
