Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Hell is a real possibility for each of us. Until we come to acknowledge that we could end up there we have not yet begun our conversion. We are sinners. We are capable of mortal sin which would condemn us for all eternity to the loss of God and the fires of hell.
Jesus Christ came to save us from hell. If we follow the Savior, repent of our sins and receive His Body and Blood we are assured of our salvation. But in order to persevere in God’s saving grace we need to get rid of whatever leads us to sin.
Temptation to sin comes through our senses. Do whatever it takes not to sin. Use your body to keep yourself from sinning. Close your eyes, walk away, bite your tongue, cover yourself, turn the channel, eat healthy food, keep your hands to yourself. Defeat evil through your body. God has given us all the means necessary to avoid hell and to secure our eternal salvation. Do whatever it takes.
