Fr. Geary’s Letter, 12-13-2020

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

Praised be Jesus Christ!

The readings and prayers for Mass this Sunday share one common theme:
Rejoice!  “In all circumstances give thanks, for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thess. 5:16).  The Lord Jesus is here in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Eucharist.   He will come again in glory to bring His people the fullness of peace.  Therefore, we must rejoice in Christ Jesus.

The Blessed Virgin Mary rejoices in heaven.  The Saints rejoice as they behold God face to face.  The angels rejoice as they adore the living God in His abode.  The faithful on earth rejoice that our sins may be forgiven in the Sacrament of Penance.  For the properly disposed, believers can receive the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ and be assured of eternal life if they but persevere.

“Rejoicing in the Lord must be your strength” (Neh. 8:10).  Whatever our circumstances, whatever our pain we must rejoice in the Lord.  He has done great things for us and holy is His name (cf. Lk 1:49).  Do not be sad this day.  Rejoice!  The Lord is near.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
