What if the celebration of the Mass and the reception of the Eucharist is more than just something we do on Sundays? In the Bread of Life Discourse of John 6, Jesus points us backwards to the Hebrew wanderings in the desert where God fed his people with manna from heaven and at the same time forward to this church age where having offered Himself at Calvary, He gives us His flesh to eat. He is the bread that came down from Heaven that one may eat of it and not die. In this, he is made present to us today, as well, and with the promise that if we eat this bread, we will live forever.
