Fr. Geary’s Letter, 4-16-2023

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

     Jesus Christ is Risen, Alleluia!

Today is Divine Mercy Sunday.  Our Lord Jesus Christ gave a message of extraordinary mercy to all mankind to a religious sister in Poland in the 1930s.  Jesus asked that the Sunday after Easter be celebrated solemnly in honor of His limitless mercy.  His message was recorded by the nun and comes to us today as an urgent offer for aching mankind.

Jesus gave us a chaplet to be prayed on the Rosary beads that implores His mercy.  He told us of the power of praying during the three o’clock hour (the hour of His atoning death on the Cross).  He asked that an image of Him be painted showing the blood and water that gushed forth from His side as He lay dead on the Cross symbolizing Baptism and the Most Holy Eucharist – Sacraments of cleansing and salvation.  Jesus promised the complete remission of sins and punishment for those who go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on (or near) this great feast of mercy.  He said the floodgates of His mercy are wide open on Divine Mercy Sunday.

God’s mercy is infinite.  His mercy endures forever for those who trust in Him.  Turn to the mercy of Jesus before the Day of  His justice (His Second Coming).  Mankind will not have peace until it trusts in God’s fathomless mercy.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
