Fr. Geary’s Letter, 4-2-2023

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

                 Praised be Jesus Christ!

Welcome to Holy Week, the time when the Church expresses the Paschal Mystery in rich fashion in the sacred liturgy. Palm Sunday begins this week as we recall Jesus’ triumphant entrance into the holy City of Jerusalem. Holy Thursday makes present the Last Supper and the consequent Agony in the Garden. Good Friday venerates Christ’s atoning death and burial. The Easter Vigil and Sunday celebrate the ultimate victory over death and the grave.

Please come to the Sacred Triduum of Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil if at all possible. Every Holy Mass contains all of these mysteries, but the Church “stretches” them into separate days during Holy Week in order to highlight the graces which lie within. Then, when Easter arrives, we will rejoice exultantly in the Lord’s resurrection, celebrating His victory and pledge of future glory for all who believe.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
