Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ, our newborn King!
During the Christmas Season, we celebrate the solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God. Our Lady gave birth to a divine Person, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Mary, born in time as a mortal, gave birth to the timeless Second Person of the Most Blessed Trinity Who chose to be born in time through her. Since Jesus is God, Mary is rightly called the Mother of God.
Devotion to Mary is rooted in her unique relationship to Jesus. Mary is the Mother of Jesus. She will always be His Mother; Jesus will always be Mary’s Son. God the Father’s Son has become the Son of Mary, too. Because of God’s choice to be born of Mary we can become sons and daughters of God. God became man so that men could share in the Son of God’s inheritance. This has all come to be through Mary.
When we honor Mary we honor Jesus. When we honor Jesus we honor Mary. Mothers and their children are related to each other forever. Heaven will never exhaust devotion and thanksgiving to Mary since she is the Mother of Jesus, our Lord and King. May our love and devotion to Mary strengthen our faith here on earth as we journey to that place where praise of Jesus and Mary will never cease.
Merry Christmas Season,
Fr. Geary
