Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
As the angel of the Lord appeared to Mary to announce her virginal divine motherhood, he also appeared to St. Joseph inviting him to his vocation. As spouses, the angel of the Lord respected each of them so much as to communicate with them directly. Jesus, the Son of God, was to be raised in a family with a Mother and (foster) father.
Sadly, many young people today are afraid of getting married and raising children. What the angel of the Lord said to Mary and Joseph he says to all of you: “Do not be afraid!” Being married expands your heart for love. The opposite sexes share invaluable qualities with each other as they grow together in Christian maturity. Also, there is no better environment for the raising of children than with a mother and father in the Sacrament of Marriage.
Our Lord enriched Our Lady and St. Joseph with innumerable graces as their Son.
Jesus was proudly called the “Carpenter’s son” (Mt. 13:55). His Mother is the Immaculate Conception whose greatness all generations will praise (Lk. 1:48). The Sacrament of Marriage assures the spouses of the grace of God as they help each other get to heaven. With Mary and Joseph as models and intercessors, those called to Marriage will learn to love Jesus in each other and their children.
God bless you,
Fr. Geary
