Fr. Geary’s Letter, 8-28-22

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

            Praised be Jesus Christ!

The Letter to the Hebrews passage for today gives a brief description of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. As we assist at Holy Mass we are at Calvary with Jesus, “the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks more eloquently than the blood of Abel” (Heb.12:24).  God the Father is there, as well the saints and innumerable angels. We must offer God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe (Heb. 12:28).

What a grace to offer the Holy Mass! We are never more pleasing to God than when we are assisting at the “once for all” offering of Jesus Christ to the Father on the altar of the Cross.  The sprinkled blood of Jesus makes atonement for our sins and wins sanctifying grace for our souls. It is the proper place to thank God for all He has done for us. We beg Him for what we need and adore His sacred Flesh and Blood truly present on our altars and in the tabernacle.

The Holy Mass saves our souls. Don’t miss out on your salvation which is made available on earth through our participation in the Sacred Mysteries of the altar. Without the Blood that Jesus Christ shed for us on the Cross, we could not be saved.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
