Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
The beautiful parable of the Prodigal Son teaches us that we can always get up and go to our Father and say to him: “Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you” (Lk. 15:18). It is never too late to repent while we are alive on planet Earth. God our Father waits for us to return to Him. The Lord’s mercy aches to be shared.
St. Paul encourages us this Sunday by pointing out that, “Whoever is in Christ is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, new things have come” (2 Cor. 5:17). Every time we leave the confessional forgiven of our sins, we become a new creature by God’s grace. We leave the old behind and put on the new man. We die in sin but rise with Christ through forgiveness. Jesus Christ makes all things new (Rev. 21:5).
Come to Confession and put on the new man transformed by mercy. God the Father waits eagerly to welcome you back to His house. He readies the feast (the Holy Mass) where He will rejoice with the angels for a reconciled sinner who has returned home.
God bless you,
Fr. Geary
