Fr. Geary’s Letter, 2-20-2022

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

            Praised be Jesus Christ!

The Word of God invites us to see things the way that He sees things. What does the Word of God say about love? How should we deal with enemies and those who persecute us? What is the criteria for our judgment from God? What will merit a reward?

When we seek to do unto others as we would have them do unto us, we often think of our own standards instead of God’s. Do we want to be loved as we love others or as God loves us? God’s standards are higher than man’s standards. God loves those who hate Him. He offers mercy in exchange for sin. God loves without expecting to be loved in return.

What is your measure of love? Is your love limited to those who love you? If God’s love is not limited to those who love Him, neither can our love be limited to those who love us. Remember, Our Lord reveals that the measure with which we measure will in return be measured out to us (cf. Lk. 6:38). Our reward from God will be proportionate to our measure of love for those who do not love us.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
