Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
This year marked another wicked accomplishment in our government: the U.S. House of Representatives (controlled by Democrats) passed a sweeping abortion bill. The bill is currently in the Senate where passage is doubtful because of the political party balance. What is frightening is the attempt to codify abortion rights in federal law.
Vatican II affirmed that life must be respected with the utmost care from the moment of conception and that abortion and infanticide are abominable crimes (Guadium et Spes, 51). Formal cooperation in abortion constitutes a grave offense. No circumstances can make an evil action good. Abortion has always been wrong, is wrong now, and always will be wrong. While we must love the sinner who procures or performs the abortion, we must always hate the sin and tirelessly work to end the horrific practice.
Animals mourn lost offspring because of their natural connection to them. How can we, human beings made in the image and likeness of God, not mourn the over 40 million abortions committed worldwide every year? We need to repent of any cooperation with the sin of abortion (including receiving one, encouraging one, voting for politicians who support them, financially contributing to people or organizations who seek to continue the killing of human life) and mourn our loved ones lost to the lies and deceptions of the evil one.
God will forgive any sin for which we show sorrow and confess in the Sacrament of Penance. Jesus forgives and heals. With trust in God’s mercy, tireless prayer, and a hunger and thirst for justice we can reverse the gains of the culture of death and promote a culture of life and love.
God bless you,
Fr. Geary
