Fr. Geary’s Letter, 9-12-2021

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

            Praised be Jesus Christ!

Jesus is called ‘Christ’ because He is the anointed One sent by God the Father to suffer and die for our sins.  It was God’s design to send His Son to die on the Cross and to rise from the dead in order to effect our redemption.  God’s reasoning is different from man’s reasoning.  God is not One for easy fixes.  Jesus even called St. Peter ‘Satan’ when he rebuked the idea that Jesus had to suffer.

The self-offering of the Son of God on the Cross will always remain the standard of love.  Loss of self for the sake of the other brings reward from God.  What we do for others is not always reciprocated by the other but pleases God all the same.  God loves; He cannot not love.   His love is seldom returned or imitated.  But when we do love God back and learn to imitate His love we will save our lives for eternity.

Do we recognize the act of superabundant love by Jesus for us on the Cross?  Do we see His greatness on the Cross?  Do we hear His invitation to love like Him: To lose our life for His sake and that of the gospel in order to save it?

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
