Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
July 25th is the feast of our patron, Saint James. He was one of the most consequential followers of Jesus Christ from the beginning of Our Lord’s public ministry. He continues to intercede before God’s glorious throne in heaven for the Church universal during Her pilgrimage to the Father’s house.
Saint James is the brother of Saint John, both sons of Zebedee. He was called to be an Apostle (i.e., bishop) at the same time as his younger brother. Jesus included Saints James, John and Peter in many significant events in salvation history including: The healing of the daughter of Jairus, the Transfiguration and the agony in the garden of Gethsemane. After Pentecost, Saint James traveled to the ends of the earth to proclaim the Gospel. He was the first Apostle to follow Our Lord in offering his life as a martyr, giving his life out of love for his brothers.
May Saint James give us courage to proclaim Jesus Christ to an increasingly pagan world. Through his intercession our faith will assuredly strengthen to give our lives in witness to the Gospel. One day we hope to share in the glory he now rightfully enjoys among the company of the victorious.
God bless you,
