Fr. Geary’s Letter, 10-11-2020

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

Praised be Jesus Christ!

The Church designates October as the month of the Most Holy Rosary.  While we should pray the Rosary daily (and not just in October), the month commemorates the great Christian naval victory on October 7th in Lepanto, Italy in 1571 against great odds as the Pope asked the faithful to pray the Rosary.  Also, October 13th marks the Miracle of the Sun after the last apparition of Our Blessed Mother in Fatima, Portugal in 1917 where Our Lady requested the daily Rosary to save souls who fall into hell in great numbers because there is no one to pray and make sacrifices for them.

Our Catholic spirituality is incomplete without devotion to Our Lady.  Since she appeared in Fatima asking mankind to pray the Rosary, we correspond with God’s plan to save souls through this holy practice.  The graces we win through the Rosary are countless:  Sinners convert, temptation is overcome, demonic strongholds are broken, souls are released from Purgatory, and virtue is strengthened, just to name a few.

Please join us Monday through Friday at 7:00 am in the church to pray the Holy Rosary.  Also, all are invited to a special event this Saturday, October 10th at noon outside the rectory to pray the Rosary to protect our nation on the eve of our presidential election. We will ask Our Lady to protect our nation from evil and to bless us with holiness.  She can win for us the victory because of the power of her intercession.  Invoke her prayers and trust in her mediation with her divine Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary, pray for us.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
