Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Today’s society is sensitive about offending others and takes great pains to ensure that speech or action does not offend other people. If only we were as concerned about not offending God! Jesus teaches us that we should not fear the one who can harm only the body but rather the one who can throw both body and soul into hell. Sin is the only thing we should fear because it primarily offends almighty God.
The Sacred Scriptures and the Catholic Church teach us what offends God and what pleases Him. Since we will all spend eternity in either heaven or hell we must learn how God thinks and how He will judge us. Have you read the Bible lately? Have you studied the teachings of Jesus Christ in His Church? You will lose your fear of judgment once you learn how to please God by repentance. God will forgive any sin when we repent.
Jesus Christ has instituted a very compassionate way to be forgiven: the Sacrament of Penance. Simply go to a Catholic priest, confess your sins with true sorrow and with a firm purpose of changing your life, and you will be forgiven of your sins. God made forgiveness simple and available. All we have to do is ask and we shall receive (Mt. 7:7). Heaven is waiting for forgiven sinners. Be one of them.
God bless you,
