We have been reflecting on the importance of the religious formation and education of our children in faith in Jesus and his Church as the rock and solid foundation of their lives to navigate safely in this upside-down world on their journey toward eternal life. We continue to insist that parents are the primary and most important educators and formators of their children in the faith. Religious education is, indeed, an essential ingredient in this. But again, parents are the foremost catechists of their children.
St. Thomas Aquinas reminds us that no one can give what they don’t have. Parents themselves need to continue their training in the faith through the many opportunities for adult education and formation offered here.
Most important, I think, is that it is obvious that our Catholic Faith is central to parents’ lives, and that it is the rock on which they build their lives. Children pick up on that. If parents’ faith life is blah, not very strong, children pick up on that, too.

Hemos estado reflexionando sobre la importancia de la formación religiosa y la educación de nuestros hijos en la fe en Jesús y su Iglesia como roca y fundamento sólido de sus vidas para navegar con seguridad en este mundo “loco” en su camino hacia la vida eterna. Seguimos insistiendo en que los padres son los principales y más importantes educadores y formadores de sus hijos en la fe. La educación religiosa es, de hecho, un ingrediente esencial en esto. Pero, de nuevo, los padres son los principales catequistas de sus hijos.
Santo Tomás de Aquino nos recuerda que nadie puede dar lo que no tiene. Los padres mismos necesitan continuar su formación en la fe a través de las muchas oportunidades de educación y formación para adultos que se ofrecen aquí.
Lo más importante, creo, es que es obvio que nuestra fe católica es fundamental en la vida de los padres, y que es la roca sobre la que construyen sus vidas. Los niños se dan cuenta de eso. Si la vida de fe de los padres parece aburrida y no uy fuerte los niños también se dan cuenta de eso.
