Fr. Schuessler’s Reflection 8-4-24

Allow me to briefly get on my soap box about the blasphemous parody of the Last Supper that was a part of the Olympic Games opening ceremony. The negative response has been enormous, even from non-Christians. And all of this in the context of what is supposed to be family-oriented entertainment was anything but with the excuse of trying to be “Inclusive.” They excluded the 2.4 billion Christians of whom about 1.3 billion are Catholic.

You will find commentators much wiser and more eloquent than I online. I am only writing to invite you to contact the Olympic Committee. See below.

As an aside, an interesting phenomenon was that there was a blackout which left all of Paris in darkness except for the Basilica of Sacre Coeur (Sacred Heart) which was lit up like a beacon on a mountain. The Light of Christ in the darkness? Interpret that as you may.

If you would like to express your discontent to the Olympic Committee and defend your faith you can at:

Of course, do so firmly but respectfully.
