Dear Parishioners of St. James:
Praised be Jesus Christ!
Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday, the day of Our Lord’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem to offer the one perfect sacrifice to God the Father in the temple of His Body. Jesus of Nazareth is indeed the King of the Jews and our King reigning gloriously on the Cross – the sign of the price of our transgressions and, at the same time, God’s infinite love for mankind.
The Church’s liturgy this week is extremely rich. The Passion is proclaimed on Palm Sunday, providing the setting for the week’s unfolding drama. Holy Thursday commemorates the institution of the Most Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Holy Orders. Good Friday allows us to accompany Our Lord on His agonizing journey to Calvary. The Easter Vigil and Sunday bursts with joy at the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the grave giving us all a share in His glorified new life.
Please participate in the Holy Week liturgies as you are able. As we meditate on Our Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection, may we all come to a deeper faith, hope and love in the One Who can deliver us from sin and death forever.
God bless you,
Fr. Geary
