Fr. Geary’s Letter for 2-11-24

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

Praised by Jesus Christ!

Lent is a season of repentance and purification. This Ash Wednesday ask yourself, “What are my bad habits? “Now is the time to change because our bad habits continue into the next life. If our bad habits are mortal sins, then Hell will be our sentence forever. If our bad habits are venial sins, then Purgatory awaits us. Neither of these places are desirable. Now is the day of salvation. Change your ways now before it’s too late.

The 40 days of Lent give us the grace-filled time to replace our bad habits with good ones. Please renounce your bad habits and start new ones. Our Lord Jesus Christ gives us positive remedies for our sinful habits. If you think you are better than others, our Lord recommends more prayer. If you seek pleasure, then fasting will break it. If you are vain about your life, reputation, wealth, or appearance, then you must give alms to the poor and the deprived.

It is not easy to break away from our selfishness, but we must if we wish to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. What is Jesus calling you to give up? What is Jesus asking you to start practicing? Now is the day of salvation!

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
