Fr. Geary’s Letter for 10-1-23

Dear Parishioners of St. James:

Praised be Jesus Christ!

Protecting the lives of pre-born babies in their mother’s wombs is still the preeminent social justice issue of our time.  Every other “right” that people claim to have pales in comparison to the right of a little baby to live. Babies in the womb are persons created in the image and likeness of God whose human parents procreated through their God-given sexual faculties.

Chastity, the virtue which directs the proper use of our sexual faculties, must govern our thoughts and actions toward love and responsibility. Love between a man and a woman is blessed by God when consecrated in the Sacrament of Marriage and ordered toward the begetting of children. Every sexual act must be open to, and find its end in the transmission of new human life. A conceived child should be the cause for great joy. Tragically, for parents who do not desire the gift of a child, abortion becomes the wicked solution.

When a woman finds herself pregnant, we must stand beside her and her pre-born baby.  Women who seek abortion are most often scared, young, and misguided by others who do not have the woman or the baby’s best interests at heart. Women who have had abortions are traumatized their whole life long from the effects of their decision. Planned Parenthood and the politicians who make abortion possible are only too ready to legalize and profit from the killing of  little, defenseless babies.

We Catholics will never be silent about the evil of abortion until it becomes unthinkable.  We Catholics will never cease to support pregnant women by providing loving alternatives like adoption and foster care.  We Catholics will never stop praying for the conversion of those who support abortion knowing that the evil one is the enemy, not other people.  We Catholics believe in the sanctity of every human life created in the image and likeness of God, redeemed by the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.

God bless you,

Fr. Geary
