Rooted deeply in the Old Covenant system of sacrificial worship and atonement for sin, Jesus, our high priest, brings about in the sacrifice of Himself, the fulfillment of what could not be accomplished through the blood of goats and bulls. Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and man, but He has chosen in His Church to give us ministers to perpetuate His sacrifice and to act in His person.
