Come and Follow Me / Ven y sígueme
This man seemed to have everything. He was rich and, moreover, obedient to God’s
commandments. He searched out the Lord because he also wanted eternal life. Maybe he was looking for a long-term “insurance plan.” Jesus had already told everyone that in order to save our lives we have to be ready to lose them; in order to follow Him we need to deny ourselves and take up our own crosses. This man was sincere and he earned the loving glance of the Lord. “You are lacking in one thing,” Jesus told him. “Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have treasure in heaven; then come, follow me.” But the man could neither look the Lord in the eye nor follow his advice. This sad man preferred to return to the “security” of his earthly life. He didn’t understand that he was being offered a far more precious thing: the love of Jesus Christ, which is the fullness of God’s love.

Este hombre parece tenerlo TODO. Era rico y también obediente a los mandamientos divinos. Había buscado al Señor pues quería también la vida eterna. Tal vez su búsqueda fue de una seguranza de largo plazo. Jesús ya había declarado a todos que para salvar la vida había queperderla, y que para seguirle a Él había que negarse a uno mismo y cargar con la cruz. Este
hombre era sincero y por eso había ganado la mirada amorosa del Señor. “Sólo una cosa te falta” le decía el Señor. “Ve y vende lo que tienes, da el dinero a los pobres y así tendrás un
tesoro en los cielos. Después, ven y sígueme.” Pero el hombre no podía ni mirarle al Señor en la cara ni hacer caso a su consejo. Este triste hombre prefería regresar a la “seguridad” de sus bienes y su vida terrena. No captaba que el Señor le estaba ofreciendo algo mucho más precioso: su propio amor – el amor de Dios en su plenitud.
