“God made them male and female” / “Dios los hizo hombre y mujer”
Jesus makes a change of venue going into Judea across the Jordan where He proclaims with messianic authority to all the people that marriage is unbreakable. Mark does not enter into the arguments of the leaders of the people concerning the legality of divorce. Rather, he faithfully captures Jesus’ teaching
that no one can separate those whom God unites. He reports Jesus’ reference to the book of Genesis:
“…from the beginning of creation, God made them male and female and the two shall become one flesh.” In this union, the image and likeness of God shine in man and woman. Jesus also teaches us that we need child-like trust to be open to God, who is our Father who loves and protects us.
Jesús entra en Judea al otro lado del Jordán donde proclama a todos que el matrimonio es indisoluble. San Marcos no entra en los argumentos de los doctores que se refieren al legalismo del divorcio. Más bien, recuerda fielmente la enseñanza de Jesús: no se pueden separar a los que Dios une. Relata la
referencia que Jesús hace al libro de Génesis: “…desde el principio, al crearlos, Dios los hizo hombre y mujer… y serán los dos una sola cosa.” A través de esta unión brillan la imagen y la semejanza del Creador en el hombre y en la mujer. Jesús también enseña como tenemos que tener la confianza de un
niño para abrirnos a Dios, quien es nuestro Padre que nos ama y nos protege.
