“You are the Christ” “Tú eres el Cristo” Peter makes a big profession of faith. To say that Jesus of Nazareth is the “Christ” means that He is the anointed one of God. In other words He is the Messiah whose coming was foretold by all the prophets of the Old Testament. Jesus´ reply to Peter is reported elsewhere, “Blessed are you Simon, son of John, for it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you.” In other words, Peter, with all his faults and limitations, had received an inspiration from God. God was with him as he sought to discover who Christ was for him. This weekend we celebrate Catechetical Sunday, a day to recognize and celebrate the work of catechists and others who teach us the doctrine of the faith. This includes Catholic school teachers, parish catechists, faith formation leaders, facilitators of adult learning, and others who help people learn our faith. I’d like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank all of our catechists and formation volunteers for their service to the Church and to our parish. Thank you for teaching us the faith.
Pedro hace una grande profesión de fe. Decir que Jesús de Nazaret es el “Cristo” quiere decir que es el ungido de Dios, el Mesías anunciado por todos los profetas del Antiguo Testamento. La respuesta de Jesús a Pedro, encontrada en otro pasaje, fue así: “Dichoso eres Simón, hijo de Juan, pues no ha sido carne y sangre que te lo ha revelado.” Es decir que Pedro con todas sus faltas y limitaciones había recibido la inspiración de Dios. Este fin de semana celebramos el Domingo catequético, un día para reconocer y celebrar la obra de los que nos enseñan la doctrina de la fe. Incluye a los maestros en las escuelas católicas, a los catequistas y otros formadores de adultos que nos ayudan en la parroquia con las clases de doctrina. Quisiera tomar la oportunidad para reconocer y agradecer a todos nuestros catequistas y voluntaries por su sacrificio y su servicio a la Iglesia y a nuestra parroquia. ¡Gracias por enseñarnos la fe!
