“It was not Moses who gave you bread from heaven…” /
“No fue Moisés quien les dio pan del cielo…”
Dear Parishioners,
This week´s reading from John follows on the great event we read about last Sunday – the multiplication of bread to feed over 5000 people. Today the people ask for a sign. “What sign can you give us?” Jesus boldly declares to them “I am the bread of life…” Let there be no mistake about it. The Church to this day boldly proclaims this same truth. Jesus truly is the Bread of Life for each of us. If we go to him we will never hunger. If we believe in him we will never thirst. We can be tempted at times to think that Christ was only speaking symbolically. Some Christian groups even hold that belief as a community, but the Catholic Church has always taught that the Eucharist truly IS the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ. For that reason we want to celebrate this reality as often as we can. The best and most perfect way to do so is by receiving him worthily in the Blessed Sacrament. He multiplies himself miraculously in this Sacrament for one reason alone – to be able to be with each of us when we receive him. Let us draw close to him with faith and receive him with devotion, confident that we will never hunger or thirst.
Many blessings to all, Fr. Timothy
