Take and Eat / Tomad y comed
Dear Parishioners,
Greetings from the beautiful “Driftless Region” of Wisconsin where I am enjoying a wonderful vacation in the countryside. I have been remembering you in daily prayers and Mass. This weekend we are invited to reflect on the meaning of Jesus’ multiplication of the loaves and fishes. All four Gospels report this miracle. Jesus uses this moment to feed a great multitude of His followers along the shores of Lake Tiberias. The people saw this as a sign of messianic importance. Hebrew tradition expected a future to renew the miracles done by Moses centuries before. Jesus wants His apostles (and all of us) to know that He will never leave us starving. Suddenly the crowd has bread from nowhere, miraculous bread from heaven. The sign He gives is one that points to Himself, the Bread come down from heaven for the life of the world. The Church remembers this moment during Mass because we know the risen Lord wants to feed us with His Body and Blood as food for our journey. Last week tens of thousands journeyed to Indianapolis, some by foot, to attend the National Eucharistic Congress. They were there to worship the One Bread come down from heaven capable of feeding them all. That same Living Bread is present in our parish Church and feeds us, too. No one is turned away hungry. Have a good weekend and I hope to be back with you all this Tuesday.
God Bless,
Fr. Timothy
